22 December - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us here at cg.com! New and exciting things are coming in 2007, so come back for a visit soon! 16 October- C.G. presented SECRETS OF USING PICTURE BOOKS IN THE CLASSROOM at the Southeast IRA Annual Regional Convention in Mobile, Alabama. Unfortunately, he ran out of handouts at the presentation. For those of you missed out, CLICK HERE for a downloadable PDF.
11 October- This just in... FUN DAY in Mrs. Walker's Class, by Robert Little and illustrated by C.G., was selected by the Mississippi Library Commission to represent the State at the National Book Festival in Washington, DC. This event is organized annually by the Library Of Congress and First Lady Laura Bush. Additionally, FUN DAY has been selected as an Accelerated Reader (AR) Book. It's been pegged at the 4.4 reading level.
31 August- C.G. was asked to fill in for Mary Ann Taylor, who was called away for emergency family matters, on the last leg of the Mississippi LAMP Tour in Hattiesburg , MS. He presented his "Secrets of Using Picture Books in the Library" presentation. Unfortunately, he ran out of handouts at the presentation. For those of you missed out, CLICK HERE for a downloadable PDF.
25 June- C.G.is pictured with beloved children's book author/ilustrator Berthe Amos (center) and her assistant Mary Margaret Smith at their Cocodrie Press booth at the American Library Association's annual convention in New Orleans.
19 May- C.G. helped judge the Eighth Annual Mississippi State Reading Fair today. Students from across the state prepared project boards based on a favorite book they read. The boards reflected incredible creativity as the students visually told the story of their favorite book in addition to demonstrating knowledge of the story's theme and resolution. Congratulations to all the winners on the local, district, regional and state levels!
Early spring- Here is C.G. in his studio finishing up some picture book art. As you see, paintings hang on the wall and are lying on flat surfaces so that he can make sure they all look consistent through out the book. The book he is working on is Rock 'n' Roll Dogs by David Davis. It is a companion to Davis' Jazz Cats that C.G. also illustrated. It will be published in September, 2006.
9-11.March- C.G. traveled to Joliet, Illinois to visit four schools there. He also spoke at the Joliet School District's annual Young Authors' Conference. Pictured with C.G. are Cheri Packard, Conference Chair, and the always on the move Steven Layne, author of My Brother Dan's Delicious (held by Ms. Packard), which C.G. illustrated.
17.February- C.G. visited East Flora Elementary School in Flora, Mississippi. There, he demonstrated drawing techniques and commented on how an illustrator gets ideas for the picture book paintings. Also participating in the school visit presentations during the day were Camden Elementary School and Luther Branson Elementary School, all of the Madison Country School District.
4.February- C.G. gave a workshop at Sam Houston State University on the different media used in children's book illustration. Pictured with him along with some of his original art are (left to right) Dr. Rosemary Chance of SHSU's College of Library Science and elementary school librarian extraordinaire and workshop participant Marjie Podzielinski.
25.January- C.G. is pictured with Tupelo, Mississippi School District fifth grade students from Lawndale Elementary School. He spoke to fourth and fifth grade classes on January 24 and 25.
15.January- Today, I uploaded this brand new design for my website. It is my hope that over the coming months, you will visit often. Plans for new links include puzzles, class room actvities and an online store where you can order autographed copies of my books. So, come back for a visit often! c.g. |
